The style of the envelope is determined by the combination of the flap and the seams.
The flap is the portion of the envelope used to seal the contents for transfer. Different flaps offer different characteristics (i.e. machine insertable remittance) .
Several standard seam names are used such as diagonal seam, side seam, center seam to correlate with the envelope style.
